Read Charlotte was established in 2015, after test scores indicated that only 40% of Charlotte’s third graders were reading on grade level. The community recognized this as a crisis, as third gradereading proficiency is a critical predictor of school, career, and life success. Ten years later, Read Charlotte is evaluating what additional funding is needed to deliver on its mission as an intermediary charged with strengthening the local system of support for early literacy looking ahead. Vandever Batten conducted a Campaign Planning Study to help refine and position the organization’s near-term vision, internal capacity, and broader context of its highly collaborativework, clarify the necessary resources to drive even greater impact, and identify potential funders to invest in this next season of change.
